"I feel great about the education all three of my children are getting in Gadsden City Schools. From elementary to high school, they’re having great experiences in sports, in fine arts, and in academics."

Greetings From Mayor Sherman Guyton!

We hope your interest in the Gadsden City Schools means you may be considering a move to the “City of Champions”, Gadsden. We are proud of our Gadsden City School System. From our Even Start Program, designed to help young children develop necessary skills to succeed in the first grade – to our new Gadsden City High School, covering grades nine through twelve, we believe any child who goes through our system will be well prepared to pursue the professional, technical, or vocational career they choose, if they apply themselves.

Specifically, the Gadsden City School System offers students Advanced Academic, Academic and Standard Diplomas with Tech Prep endorsement in Engineering, Marketing, and Health Technology & Occupation Diplomas. Our four-period/block scheduling allows seniors to take college courses at Gadsden State Community College.

For the past 15 years, our city schools have produced between 1 and 6 National Merit Scholars each year. The State has acclaimed the system’s Fine Arts in Choral, Strings, Band, Jazz Band, and Visual Arts. In addition, students have participated in the Quiz Bowl, and been accepted to the Beta Club and National Honor Society. Advanced placement courses include Algebra II, Calculus, American History, Political Science, English, and others.

A coalition of schools and school systems in the Gadsden Metropolitan Statistical Area, is working with the local Industrial Development Authority, the chamber of commerce, Gadsden State Community College and others, to create a viable Workforce Development Program; one that will assess our needs, determine the best avenues for accomplishing related programs, and the funding necessary to initiate and continue the effort each year in the foreseeable future.

On behalf of the Gadsden City Council and the citizens of Gadsden, we invite you to talk with the Superintendent of Education, Dr. Ed Miller, or any of his staff about programs and opportunities in the Gadsden City School System.

Sincerely,

Sherman Guyton
Mayor, City of Gadsden
